You can get a valid medical certificate in Mumbai without stepping out: a registered doctor consults you online, assesses your condition, and issues a digitally signed certificate to your email.
In Mumbai, a short illness rarely stays short. A fever on a Monday morning means calling in sick, then finding a clinic, then waiting in a crowded OPD, then travelling back across the city while unwell. For someone living in Virar and working in BKC, or commuting from Thane to Lower Parel, that trip can take longer than the consultation itself.
During the monsoon it gets harder. Waterlogged roads, disrupted local trains and packed clinics make a simple certificate a half-day task. CertifyMyHealth lets you skip all of that and consult a doctor from your bed, your hostel room, or your parents' home in Navi Mumbai.
Is an online medical certificate valid in Mumbai?
Yes. A certificate issued after a genuine online consultation with a registered medical practitioner is legitimate under the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020, which apply across India, including Maharashtra.
Mumbai has a direct link to these rules. A Bombay High Court ruling in Deepa Sanjeev Pawaskar v. State of Maharashtra had raised doubts about whether remote consultation was legitimate. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare then issued the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines on 25 March 2020, giving online consultations a clear legal footing (IBA).
What the guidelines say, in short:
- Who can consult you: only a registered medical practitioner (RMP) enrolled in a State Medical Register or the Indian Medical Register (PSA Legal).
- Where from: an RMP can consult patients from any part of India, so a doctor registered in another state can lawfully consult you in Mumbai.
- Identity on both sides: anonymous consultations are not allowed. The doctor verifies who you are, and must show their name, qualification and registration number.
- Platform duties: telemedicine platforms must verify each doctor's registration before listing them and display their credentials.
- Doctor's judgement: if a physical examination is needed, the doctor should refer you for an in-person visit instead of continuing online.
Acceptance is a separate question from validity. Most employers, colleges and gyms accept a doctor-signed certificate that carries the doctor's registration number. Some institutions set their own rules, such as requiring a certificate from a government hospital or a company-empanelled doctor, so check your HR or college policy if you're unsure.

How to get a medical certificate online in Mumbai
The whole process runs on your phone and takes four steps.
- Choose your certificate on certifymyhealth.com and fill in a short form: your name, age, symptoms, the dates you need covered, and who the certificate is for (employer, college, airline).
- Pay online using UPI, card or net banking.
- Consult the doctor. A registered doctor reviews your details and speaks with you to understand your condition. They may ask follow-up questions or for any reports you already have.
- Receive your certificate as a digitally signed PDF by email, showing the doctor's name, qualification and registration number, ready to forward to HR or your college.
If the doctor decides your symptoms need an in-person examination, they will tell you and advise you to visit a clinic or hospital.
Who in Mumbai uses online medical certificates
- Office employees in Andheri, Powai, BKC, Lower Parel and Malad who need a sick leave certificate for HR without a two-hour round trip to a clinic.
- Students at Mumbai colleges and coaching centres who need a certificate for a missed exam, attendance shortfall or hostel admission.
- Fitness enthusiasts signing up for a gym, swimming pool or the city's running events who need a fitness certificate.
- People caring for family, especially those whose parents live in another suburb or city, who need a caretaker certificate for leave.
- Travellers who fall ill before a flight from Mumbai airport or a long-distance train and need an unfit to travel certificate for a refund.
When you should see a doctor in person instead
An online certificate suits common, short-term illnesses that a doctor can assess through conversation. It is not a substitute for emergency care or a physical examination.
Go to a hospital or clinic in person if you have:
- Chest pain, breathlessness, fainting or confusion
- High fever lasting more than three days, especially during Mumbai's monsoon season when dengue, malaria and leptospirosis cases rise
- An injury that may need stitches, an X-ray or a plaster
- Symptoms the doctor says need tests or an examination
Online certificates are also not suitable for medico-legal purposes, insurance claims that require hospital records, or long-term disability assessments.
The doctor decides whether to issue a certificate. If your condition doesn't support one, or needs in-person care, they won't issue it, and that protects the certificate's value for everyone who uses it.
